The joint ISAM & CSAM-SMCA annual meeting and scientific conference held in Montreal, Canada Oct 20-22, 2016 received many accolades for the comprehensive program highlighting research, prevention, and treatment in the field of addiction medicine.

The plenary speakers: Dr. Nora Volkow, Dr. Julie Bruneau, Dr. Gregory Bunt,  Dr. Pedro Ruiz,  Dr. Harold Kalant,  Dr. Jurgen Rehm,  Dr. Marc Galanter and  Dr. Amine Benyamine made important contributions to this educational endeavor.

Speakers and attendees came from 31 countries around the world with representation from six continents.

Several first were celebrated in Montreal:

  • The first one-day track for the newly created Chapter of the International Nurses of Addiction Medicine
  • A first one-day, pre-conference offering of a French language track
  • The first ISAM Distinguished Scientist Award for achievements in the field of Addiction Medicine was awarded to Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
  • The first CSAM-SMCA Recognition Award for Leadership in the field of Addiction Medicine in Canada was awarded to Rita Notarandrea, CEO of the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA).

A record attendance of 550 participants included 40 students and 75 participants for the one-day Fundamentals course on October 23 was achieved

The 2017 committee will be looking to build on the momentum from this successful meeting in preparation for ISAM 2017 Abu Dhabi Oct 26-29, 2017 at the beautiful Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Hotel.

Next CSAM-SMCA conference is in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada Oct 19-21, 2017.
